Fluid

Golden Sun Granite (2025)

Fluid challenges the conventional perception of stone as solid, masculine, and permanent, presenting it as soft, feminine, and transient. Its flowing surface continuously shifts in form, inviting onlookers to touch, sit, and engage with it.

Reinterpreted from Supermass Studio’s LaGuardia Airport Terminal B GFRC planter seating, Fluid was carved from the outside in rather than cast from the inside out. While the hollow precast GFRC planter modules of the original project sought to mimic the rough, coarse texture of stone, working with real stone resulted in a smoother, more fluid surface, revealing an unexpected dimension of its materiality.
