Once a life-giving force and ceremonial centerpiece, the fireplace returns in Altared States, a new mantel collection by John Beckmann, Founder and Principal Designer of Axis Mundi.
Created in collaboration with ABC Stone, the collection unites the primal and the polished and features five architecturally driven mantels that reframe the hearth’s ancient gravitas through a modern lens. Each piece elevates fire into art, honoring both its beauty and its power.
Altared States celebrates nature’s geometry, where stone is shaped by elemental forces. Rather than tame these forms, Beckmann brings them indoors, capturing their raw energy in pieces that feel both timeless and boldly contemporary.
The hearth becomes a conversation between the wild and the refined, where fire meets the quiet permanence of stone and creates an aesthetic that feels grounded, alive, and quietly breathing within the space.
Axis Mundi x ABC Stone — The Altared States Collection
The Altared States Collection consists of five distinct designs—Shell Shock, Intellectual Property, Circular Reasoning, Piece of Mind, and Cerebral Matter—each available in three colorways: Rosa Aurora, Chambord, and Bateig. Overall dimensions are 66”L x 49”H x 5.5”D.
Thoughtfully guided by ABC Stone, John Beckmann infuses the collection with a grounded materiality that balances restraint and grace. These art-forward mantels favor reverence over spectacle, an invitation to pause, reflect, and tend to something real.
