What stones do you think are trending right now?
Just from what I’m seeing on social media I’d say travertines are hot right now, especially the unfilled and honed slabs for furniture; and Onyx & semi-precious slabs. For these translucent slabs, there seems to be a trend to backlight them and use them as statement pieces in bathrooms, kitchens, and bars.
What material are you really loving right now?
Avocatus Quartzite in a leather finish – the rich green tones are just so inviting and natural. It’s as if the jungle somehow fused itself into a slab of stone.
If you were a stone, what would you be and why?
I’d say, Panda Marble – because it’s more than what it looks like at first. A quick glance tells you it’s black and white, but if you get up close to it and really look it has this beautiful green that runs through it. It’s more than what it looks like at first glance, just like me.
Have you seen any recent projects that show any of these materials beautifully?
The West Village Townhouse by Amie Sachs Architect is such a design inspiration for me! I love the contrast between the natural stone and the gorgeous walls as well as the rich colors throughout the project. Very cool. Another is this powder room design by Michael K Chen Architecture. The vanity is made of our White Beauty marble – the tropical print of the wallpaper paired with the stone is just divine.
